Coach Brandt started running in 4th grade and hasn’t stopped. She ran track and cross country in High school in Missouri and was captain of both her teams. She turned down scholarships to run in college in order to attend Purdue University where she put herself through college and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering.
Coach Brandt ran her first marathon in Chicago in 1995 (1yr + 1day before her first child was born). She took 10 years off from racing, but not running, to raise children. She ran the Little Rock, Arkansas marathon in 2007 placing 3rd in her division and qualifying for the Boston marathon which she ran in 2008. She’s competed as part of a women’s team in the Chicago Triathlon from 2007-2009 which was the world’s largest triathlon at the time placing 1st in 2007 and 2nd in 2008.
Coach Brandt helped to start the Bellin Kids for Running program at St. Matt’s which she coached for 4 years (2006-2009). She coached middle school track for a combined team of St. Matthews, Resurrection, St. Thomas More, and Wis. Int’l School from 2009-2011.
Coach Brandt and her husband Jon have been married for 27 years and have 3 children: Ruth a freshman at UW Madison, Jack a senior soccer player at Notre Dame, and Ava a freshman at Ashwaubenon HS.
“I love that running is one of the few sports where the only equipment required is a decent pair of running shoes. Because you’re not waiting for someone to pass you the ball, your success both emotional and physical is dependent on what you put into it. It’s just you and the road.”
